Dramatic Elements

The documentary was produced to be made out to resemble a dramatic film. The director, Kevin MacDonald invisioned for the documentary to be watched like a film and have all the dramatic effects commonly associated with dramatic movies but just showcase the true story of the climbers. MacDonald wanted the film to be captivating to a large audience so the majority of the film was focused on the reenactments with some interview explanation of the events by Simon Yates and Joe Simpson.

This style of documentary is known as docudrama as it features dramatized reenactments of true events. Other famous docudramas include The Social Network, 127 Hours and Nixon.
